Asclepias tuberosa is a host plant for a number of caterpillars, including monarch caterpillars. It is not uncommon to observe partial or entire leaves eaten or the plant with sparse foliage, as it is consumed by the caterpillars. The nectar from the flowers is also a food source for butterflies.
